Job Description Summary
As a Principal Engineer - Mechanical Structures & Dynamics, you will be a technical reference within our structural engineering community, providing deep expertise in structural analysis, dynamics, and mechanical design for wind turbine nacelles. You will work across the full engineering lifecycle, from pre-conceptual design through analysis and validation, covering sheet-metal structures, welded and bolted assemblies, and composite components.
Beyond your own technical contribution, you will help raise the capability of the wider team through mentoring, coaching, development of new engineering methodologies, and technical guidance.
You will be responsible for driving robust engineering decisions through design reviews, drawing reviews, stack-up assessments, analytical calculations, and correlation of test and simulation results. You will also support review of certification activities, engage with external agencies as needed, and help strengthen technical capability across the organization, especially in dynamics.
This is a leadership role for an experienced engineer who can challenge assumptions, develop new methods, and partner with CTHs, design teams, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver safe, high-quality, and compliant products.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead complex structural analysis and engineering activities, using FEA/ANSYS to assess strength, dynamics, fatigue, and structural integrity.
- Develop and improve calculation methodologies and engineering approaches for challenging structural problems.
- Provide technical guidance on structural design, challenging assumptions and ensuring robust engineering decisions from concept through validation.
- Mentor and coach engineers, sharing knowledge and strengthening technical capability across the team.
- Work closely with design, manufacturing, testing, suppliers, and other engineering functions to deliver robust structural solutions.
Qualification / Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive hands-on experience in structural engineering, including both mechanical design and structural analysis.
- Deep expertise in FEA and structural dynamics, ideally with ANSYS.
- Experience with large fabricated structures, including sheet-metal, welded and bolted assemblies; composite experience is a strong plus.
- Experience developing or improving engineering calculation methodologies.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and provide constructive technical pushback.
- A collaborative, mindset and a genuine interest in helping others grow.
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge of wind turbine nacelle structures and related design challenges.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes such as IIW, Eurocode, and DNV.
- Experience in test-to-simulation correlation and method development in frequency domain.
- Strong problem-solving skills with experience in RCA, supplier issue resolution, and technical investigations.
